Public Health updates number of confirmed H1N1 cases

1:51 p.m., May 4, 2009----The Delaware Division of Public Health announced that, as of May 4, there are 10 new confirmed cases of H1N1 in the state of Delaware, all of them UD students. That brings the number of confirmed cases at UD to 20.

In making the announcement, Dr. Karyl Rattay, director of the Delaware Division of Public Health, stressed that the cases announced on Monday do not represent an increase of cases, but rather the lab results catching up with cases reported last week.

"This is basically catching up a backlog of lab tests rather than a sudden spurt in new infections," she said.

Dr. Rattay also noted that there have been no hospitalizations in Delaware and that the symptoms of the flu have been mild.

Any UD student who is experiencing flu-like symptoms should go to Student Health Services in Laurel Hall, which is open 24 hours a day.
