3:15 p.m., March 25, 2009----The University of Delaware has won 18 awards in the Delaware Press Association (DPA) 2009 Communications Contest, the association has announced.
The honors include 13 first-place awards, two second-place awards and three honorable mentions, for work that encompasses news and feature articles, press releases, publications, Web sites, posters, banners, reports and brochures.
The work was produced during 2008 by staff members in the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), Marine Public Education and the Center for Disabilities Studies.
The DPA, an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women since 1977, is a network of more than 100 journalists, graphic designers, broadcasters, public relations specialists and others in the communications field.
“We're very pleased that the Delaware Press Association has recognized the outstanding work of so many individuals who collaborate with others across campus to get the word out about the great things that are happening at the University of Delaware,” said David Brond, UD vice president for communications and marketing. “Communicating effectively about the University's initiatives and accomplishments plays a key role in enhancing our national and international prominence.”

A first-place award also went to Center for Disabilities Studies staff, where Michele Sands was recognized in the external annual reports category.
