5:11 p.m., Jan. 23, 2009----Newark Police have charged Derek Maloney, 28, of no fixed address, with indecent exposure and lewdness after he exposed his genitals to three women in public places within a short period of time.

On Thursday, Jan. 22, reports were received of a person exposing himself to a passing pedestrian near Elkton Road and Amstel Avenue in Newark. After a responding officer saw Maloney walking on the railroad tracks, he was detained and then positively identified by one of the victims.

During the investigation, two other women complained that he had exposed himself to them on North College Avenue near Cleveland Avenue. According to the investigation, he exposed his genitals to the women as they walked near him and he made motions with his hands indicating that he was fondling himself.

Maloney was charged with three counts of lewdness and two counts of indecent exposure and was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility in default of bond.
