11:45 a.m., Feb. 9, 2009----Gregory Andrew Paroulek, 19, a University of Delaware sophomore from Chester, Md., died Feb. 6, 2009. He was majoring in music composition at the University.

Born on September 12, 1989, in Annapolis, Md., he was the son of Joseph Frederick Paroulek and Anne Elizabeth Kelly of Chester, Md. He graduated from Kent Island High School in 2007.

Mr. Paroulek was a master of the drums, piano and guitar, and he played the drums for several bands, including The Bodkin Creek Boys in Annapolis, Md.; Impulso in Easton, Md.; and Stone City in Delaware. While in high school he played in the Kent Island Jazz and Community Bands. While he was a student at UD, members of the Philadelphia Orchestra recorded “Leaves,” one of his many compositions.

He also enjoyed snowboarding at Wintergreen and surfing at Rehoboth Beach.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Paroulek is survived by two brothers, David Paroulek and wife Kathleen of Fredericksburg, Va., and Timothy Paroulek of Falls Church, Va.; maternal grandmother Cynthia Kelly of Chester, Md.; paternal grandmother Agnes Paroulek of Arlington, Va.; three aunts, Cindy McCarthy of Vienna, Va., Lenny Moynihan of Clarksville, Md., and Teresa Freeman of Vienna, Va.; an uncle, Paul Kelly of Taos, N.M.; and a nephew, Ben Paroulek of Fredericksburg, Va.

A celebration of life will be held from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Cremation and Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, Md. Burial will be private.
