2:55 p.m., April 21, 2009----The University of Delaware's Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management has teamed up with Newmarket International, Inc., the leader in sales and catering solutions for the hospitality industry, to bring their flagship product, Delphi, to the classroom.
The hospitality industry is constantly searching for qualified candidates who have the knowledge and experience to start booking business on day one.
By adding Delphi training to the UD hotel, restaurant and institutional management program, students will be better prepared to secure employment and compete in today's marketplace.
The Delphi Sales and Catering application is used by over 80,000 hospitality professionals worldwide. Students will receive the same training leading hotel brands use to train their teams.
Through a combination of real-world scenarios, demonstration videos, “try it” exercises and quiz questions, Newmarket's eLearning courses provide a rare opportunity for students to gain industry experience without leaving the classroom.
Delphi Sales and Catering application training will be integrated in the Introduction to Hospitality Technology (HRIM 187) course taught by Cihan Cobanoglu, associate professor of hospitality technology.
“It is a great pleasure to add world market leader software in our class,” Cobanoglu said, adding, “Students spend two hours each week in the computer lab, learning leading hospitality software applications.”
“The University of Delaware's hotel, restaurant and institutional management program is pleased to be able to offer the Delphi in the Classroom series to our students. This Web-based system ensures that our students are learning from the latest version of Delphi's widely used sales and catering application without a need for us to house, update, and maintain software,” said Robert R. Nelson, chairperson of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.
“We are excited to welcome the University of Delaware to the 'Delphi in the Classroom' program. The depth of the hospitality program will benefit greatly from this partnership and Newmarket International is excited to develop a relationship with the next generation of hospitality sales and catering professionals," said Sean O'Neill, chairman and chief executive officer of Newmarket International, Inc.
