2:44 p.m., April 23, 2009----On April 18, more than 50 University of Delaware students participated in Best Buddies' Midnight Madness, an off the wall "photo tour.” The event raised awareness and money for Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships.

The event was run by student members of the University of Delaware's Best Buddies club. The event consisted of teams of 6-10 players racing around campus to get pictures. The team with the most points by the end of the night was crowned the winner.

Teams prepared for the event by fundraising, which started them off with a certain number of points. Items on the “photo tour” included getting your entire team in a tree, putting on 25 University of Delaware items at once, and eating at Season's Pizza.

The event was a success, raising $8,000 for Best Buddies Delaware and getting the students involved and excited about the cause.

Stephanie Slovon, a member of the winning team, The Legendary Purple Parrots, explained, "I had no idea what to expect from Midnight Madness, but I never thought it would be as great as it turned out to be. I had such a fun time completing the picture tour with my friends. Everything was extremely organized and the event ran so smoothly. I am really glad I participated in Midnight Madness especially since it was for such a great cause. I cannot wait to join next year."

Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Best Buddies opened its Delaware office in April 2008 and has implemented Best Buddies school-based programs throughout the state. For more information, call (302) 691-3187 or visit the Web site.
