Mahler and Strauss: Hardware and Software Changes - July 2005

Overview

Mahler, a Sun Ultra Enterprise 5000, is being retired on August 15, 2005. Mahler has served as a central compute server for many years, but is no longer a cost-effective system to maintain. The newest versions of software installed on Mahler are available on Strauss.

Strauss and Mahler share user filesystems, so Mahler users do not need to migrate their files themselves.

If your program uses the older releases of the IMSL (CTT) or NAG numerical libraries found only on Mahler, then you may need to modify and recompile your source code in order to run it on Strauss. Documentation has been written or revised to help you with this task, and is listed below.

We encourage you to migrate and test your programs on Strauss as soon as possible. Mahler is no longer supported by a maintenance plan. If it suffers an unexpected hardware failure, it will probably not be repaired, even if the failure occurs prior to August 15.
