Scanning Images

Scanning: Description

You can include hard copy graphics in your documents using the scanning equipment available on campus or purchased for personal use. The flatbed and slide scanners available on campus allow you to scan images for computer presentations, desktop printing, professional printing, and use on the Web and for creating black-and-white or color slides. Some equipment provides color or black-and-white scanning, while other scanners accommodate only black-and-white images. Most scanners provide software for manipulating an image after it is scanned; additional software (i.e., Photoshop) for this purpose is available in some computing sites.

Where to find scanning equipment

Scanners are available in the computing sites on campus. Faculty, staff, and students can reserve a scanner for up to one hour by calling the computing site one day ahead. Since the focus of the Recitation Hall computing site is graphics, it contains the greatest variety of scanning equipment available on campus.

For information about purchasing a desktop scanner, consult the Technology Solutions Center and Web sites of commercial providers ; contact the University Bookstore (831-2637) for hardware and software availability.
