Examples of Purpose Statements
Examples
  • Basic revenue will be coded with fundtype 11 (e.g., PBRL112125).
    • Basic expense main department (e.g., PLSC1100000).
    • Basic expense not main department (e.g., PLSC112111).
    • Basic State expense will be included in basic expense codes defined above.
  • Allocated supplemental funds (S will be used in the 7th position):
    • Primary supplemental fund (e.g., CHEM17S000).
    • Supplemental fund sub-accounts (e.g., CHEM17S511, CHEM17S512, etc.).
  • Other Allocated examples:
    • 17 will be used in the 5th and 6th positions; 5 will be used in 7th position (e.g., HIST175113, CHEM175137, BOOK175111).
    • Self-supporting revenue and expense will have one Purpose code (e.g., AGCM212112).
    • AG Fed Approp will be coded with 3A in the 5th and 6th positions (e.g., AGEX3A2115).
    • State Approp will be coded with 22 in the 5th and 6th positions (e.g., MATH222111).
    • Loan codes will carry dept acronym of LOAN followed by legacy fundtype (e.g., LOAN512153, LOAN572115).
    • Pooled Endowment codes (with Attribute Endow_Class 61-67) will start with XM followed by 8 additional letters representative of the Purpose description (e.g., XMCRESTLEA).
    • Agency student groups will be coded as STGP912###.
    • Agency financial aid will be coded as EXFA912###.
    • Other Agency will be coded as AGCY912###.
    • Most academic departments will have multiple speedtypes using the basic budget Purpose code with variable Program codes for instruction, dept rsch, match, and public svc (e.g., with Purpose CHEM110000, following speedtypes exist—CHEM110000, CHEM11DRES, CHEM11MTCH, CHEM11PSER).
  • Asset/Liability Purpose codes (6 alphanumeric characters):
    • Assets will always start with the letter A and Liabilities will always start with the letter L.
    • The second digit will identify the Major Asset/Liability Heading and the third digit will identify Sub-Headings, as per definitions established by the Controller.
    • Standard asset/liability contained in each fund group will have identical values with the 6th digit representing the legacy fund group (e.g., A1CWT1, A1CWT2. etc.).
