You can use some features of the Netscape Messenger application to reduce your disk quota.
(Note: Be sure you're emptying the "Trash" folder on "mail.udel.edu" and not on "Local Mail.")
If the "Size" column is not visible, click on the left-pointing arrow at the end of the line containing the word "Subject." You will see the column named "Size" appear. Click on the word "Size," hold down the mouse button, and drag the "Size" column to the right of the first column ("Subject"). Click once on the word "Size" to sort messages by size (smallest to largest).
Note: You can click on the word "Size" again to reverse the sort order. In the following graphic, you can now see the "Size" column immediately after the "Subject" column.
For example, if you see a message with the number "847" in the "Size" column, that message contains 847 bytes. If you see a message with the number "847KB" in the "Size" column, then that message is 1,000 times larger than the other one. (One K equals 1,000 bytes.)
Important: For messages you must keep, file them in the "Local Mail" folder (which is on your desktop computer and, therefore, doesn't affect your disk quota on the central mail server).
If the disk usage command (du -ak | more) explained in step number 2 of FAQ: Using UNIX Commands to Manage Disk Quota returned many files with "netscape" or "cache" as part of the name, please use the following command to remove unnecessary files from your directory:
\rm -r .netscape/cache/*
