Excessive Bandwidth Use

The University of Delaware network provides high speed network access to residence halls, yet students report slow internet connections and problems connecting to off-campus web sites. Students who download movies and music use excessive bandwidth to the detriment of their hall mates. The network is neither designed nor intended for this use.

To provide everyone living in residence halls with equitable access to the Internet, individuals are now limited to 1GB of network traffic per day. Students who exceed this limit will be notified and their network connections will be restricted. Subsequent violations will be referred to the student judicial system charged with violation of the responsible computing policy.

This limit will provide all the students with the opportunity to use residence hall network resources responsibly and with consideration of others.
