RELEASE NOTES FOR LISREL 8.7 for SUN SOLARIS OS 5.9 ==================================================== SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: SUN OS 5.9 LISREL 8.7 for Sun Solaris OS 5.9 includes the applications lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim. prelis27 is a application for manipulating data, transforming data, generating data, computing moment matrices, computing asymptotic covariance matrices, performing regression analyses, performing exploratory factor analyses, performing probit and logistic regression analyses, performing censored regression analyses, etc. The application lisrel87 is intended for Standard and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling. The Full Information Maximum Likelihood (FIML) method for missing data is also available for both Standard and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling. Special methods for the analysis of ordinal variables are available for Standard Structural Equation Modeling for complete data. The application multilev7 fits multilevel linear and nonlinear models to raw data. The application surveyglim fits generalized linear models to complex survey and simple random sample data. LISREL 8.7 for Sun Solaris OS 5.9 can co-exist with previous versions of LISREL for Sun Solaris OS 5.9 if it is installed in a different directory. INSTALLING AND RUNNING LISREL 8.7 for Sun Solaris OS 5.9 1. Save the file in a directory of your choice 2. Uncompress the files by running the command: uncompress *.Z 3. Untar the files by running the command (for example): tar -xvf LIS* 4. To access lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 or surveyglim in directories other than the installed directory, the PATH environment variable must be set. Please consult the system administrator on how to set the PATH environment. 5. The applications lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim require a license to run. This license is in the form of an access code. This access code is contained in a license file named 'LICENSE.SSI'. The applications lisrel87, prelis27 and multilev7 need to access this license file whenever they are run. If the license file is not found or it does not contain a valid license, the relevant application will prompt for an access code. 6. If you do not have a valid access code, answer 'no' when prompted for the access code. The application will then print a line similar to the following: ID = xxxxx The string 'xxxxx' is your user code. Contact SSI by e-mail or phone (see below) with this value and you will then be given a valid access code to run on the machine where LISREL is installed, if you are entitled to one. 7. With the access code provided by SSI, run lisrel87 again. This time, answer 'yes' when prompted for the access code and enter the code provided by SSI. 8. With a valid access code, the application will save the access code in the license file 'LICENSE.SSI' so that you will not be prompted for an access code until the license period has expired. Please ensure the user has write acess to the license file and the directory where the file is located. 9. The applications lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim will search for the license file in the following order: 1. The directories specified in the PATH environment 2. The directory specified in the SSIPATH environment 3. Current working directory. To set the SSIPATH environment variable: for C shell: setenv SSIPATH for Korn shell: export SSIPATH= where is the full path where the license file LICENSE.SSI is located. 11. Alternately, one can create a symbolic link to the actual license file in the application searchable directory by using the following command: ln -s /LICENSE.SSI /LICENSE.SSI where is the path where the license file is physically located, and is one of the directories that the application will search in. 12. The syntax for running the applications lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim is: [input] [output] where: is one of lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim. [input] is the name of a text file that contains information on the data, the variables and the type of analysis to be performed, or the model to be fitted to the data. [output] is the name of the text file which contains the results of the analysis. If [input] is not given or the file cannot be found, the user will be prompted to type in the name. 13. Conventions for file name extensions: .LS8 - LISREL syntax file .SPL - SIMPLIS syntax file .PR2 - PRELIS/MULTILEV/SURVEYGLIM syntax file .OUT - Default extension for output generated by LISREL 8.7 applications Users can use any other file name extensions except '.MSF', '.DSF' and '.PSF', since these file extensions are used internally by lisrel87, prelis27, multilev7 and surveyglim.
