S.O.S. - Sexual Offense Support
Sexual Offense Support is a volunteer organization providing support and advocacy to survivors of all forms of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking, as well as educating the University of Delaware community on these topics. Learn how a Victim Advocate can help!
S.O.S. is made up of undergraduate and graduate student volunteers, staff and community volunteers. S.O.S. is a program of Student Wellness & Health Promotion on campus. An S.O.S. Victim Advocate can provide 24/7 crisis assistance for anyone in the UD community:
Explain options that victims have & information about all the various resources & reporting options available
A listening ear, support, compassion, empathy
Answers to questions you may have
Assistance in assessing or understanding what may have happened, assessing potential danger in a situation, and providing safety options
Accompaniment to the resources - especially to the hospital to explain what will happen, wait with you, provide comfort to your friends or family who are there, act as your advocate to make sure that your needs are met
Arrange a ride for you to the hospital via UD Public Safety and ride with you if preferred (you do not have to be filing a police report to use the ride service)
- Referrals to counseling resources both on and off campus and/or schedule an appointment for you
Make arrangements for you to utilize on-campus Emergency Housing or off-campus Shelter resources
Assistance in making a coping plan to get through the next few days
Professionals at Student Wellness can provide for UD Students:
- Ongoing crisis counseling, and the opportunity to participate in a Survivor Support Group (either related to Sexual Assault or Dating Violence)
- Arrangements for academic accommodations, either directly with your faculty or via the Office of the Dean of Students (extension on work due, postponement of an exam, excusal from missed classes, etc.)
- Accompaniment to meet with Housing & Residence Life staff when seeking a room change, contract termination, or Emergency Housing
- Ongoing advocacy throughout the Student Conduct process including accompaniment to meetings and hearing
Accompaniment to meet with the Title IX Coordinator
Explanation of the Protection From Abuse Order process and accompaniment to Family Court to seek a PFA
Letter to your landlord to verify the need for termination of an off-campus rental lease without penalty under Delaware law
- Verification on forms when seeking Victims Compensation Assistance Program funds through the Delaware's program (VCAP is available to victims who have reported to police)
To reach the SOS Victim Advocate on duty 24 hours/day call 302-831-2226. The Student Health Service staff member who answers will take a first name and phone number and the S.O.S. Victim Advocate will call you back within 10 minutes.
Students may make an appointment for services at Student Wellness by calling 302-831-3457 during normal business hours. You will need to provide your real name to set up the appointment, and complete paperwork at your first visit.
