Peak, J. D. and D.L. Sparks. Effect of reaction conditions on boron sorption on iron hydroxides. SSSA Annual Meeting Abstracts, Nov 5-9, 2000, Minneapolis, MN. p.240.

Abstract

Boron is a plant micronutrient with a nanow range between deficiency and toxicity. Therefore understanding its reactivity in soils is vital to its proper agronomic management. Since metal oxides have been shown to be important sorbents for boron in natural systems, this presentation will focus on boron adsorption to iron (III) hydroxides such as goethite. hematite, and ferrihydrite. We will present results from macroscopic studies as well as Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopic studies. Emphasis will be given to the effects that changing reaction conditions such as solid: solution ratio. pH, ionic strength, and reactant concentration have on sorption mechanisms.
