Computer Skills Growth Chart

Meeting -- March 8, 2001

Attending: Judy Coffield, Joyce Nerlinger, Wendy Modzelewski, Sandy Falatek, Pat Sine

Discussion:

The group spent the time finishing up the skills for Word Processing and beginning the Graphics and Presentation column. The foloowing things were agreed to.

  1. The column that previously covered Keyboarding and Word Processing would be solely for Word Processing.

  2. The subject of keyboarding will be addressed in the prologue. Based on our review of the available research and various scope and sequence documents, our conclusion is that keyboarding is largely based on motor skills so it is appropriate to begin keyboard training in grades 2-4 based on developmental appropriateness. However, it is important to encourage the use of left and right hands to avoid bad habits that will later need to be unlearned.

The draft version of the project will be presented by Pat Sine and Denise Tuck at the DITC on April 2.
