  • What guidelines can you give us for "cleaning" the laptops - hardware and software. Can we finish this after school ends if we don't have enough time before then.

What did you do this month?

  • Worked with digital pictures and with iMovie.
  • Communicated mobile lab printer problems to Craig and Joyce.
  • Attended the Delaware Technology Conference.
  • Prepared and presented two Power Point workshops to staff.
  • Assisted staff with mylearningplan.com
  • Conferenced with a fifth grade teacher for an Internet research lesson.
  • Individual staff support for Power Point, including searching and using clipart from the web in a presentation.
  • Previewed and used grade level Science software.
  • Successfully printed all student work with the wireless printer in a half-day!
  • Prepared for and attended the AG Technology Fair.
  • Prepared and presented a KES workshop on the use of the AG server.
  • Collaborated with student teacher to integrate student use of the digital camera with student's initial use of Power Point to create a class presentation on Simple Machines.

What do you have planned for next month?

  • Collaborative time to create a web page.
  • Continue KES workshops.
  • Encouraging teachers to use Alpha Smarts for Writing Workshop.
  • Mini-lessons and individual staff support as needed.
  • Meet to evaluate ITLT work at KES this year.
  • Assist staff in removing student work from the iBooks.
  • Assist staff in saving files to the server before packing computers for the move.

What help do you need?

  • Will we have time this summer to work on items that we were unable to coordinate during the school year?
  • If there will be an iLab at Penn London Elementary, will K-2 appropriate CDs and programs be available to enhance the primary curriculum? The current bundle does not have much available for the younger students.
  • We recommend an overview of the use and care of the iLab for all teachers at the beginning of next year.
March

What did you do this month?

  • Scheduled the iLab for the remainder of the year. A teacher survey was used to provide input from all grade 3/4/5 teachers. The result is a rotating schedule, with grades 3, 4, and grades 3/4/5 alternating weekly. Fifth grade is scheduled for every Friday.
  • Downloaded pictures for grade level use.
  • Researched web links and software for a fifth grade Social Studies research project.
  • Instructed a fifth grade class for their initial and follow-up use of the iLab. The teacher requested support in research for a Social Studies project. The students were to create a model based on criteria determined by the classroom teacher. Our web links are available at www.alft.net/colonial
  • Supported teachers in the use of digital cameras and digital camcorders.
  • Reviewed Profiler survey results and created a workshop schedule for the month of April and the beginning of May. Announced the schedule via e-mail and mailboxes.
  • Review websites (eg: Brinkster.com, Teachersfirst.com, Pennsylvania resource info.)
  • First attempt at creating a web page.
  • Supported school nurse in email addressing.
  • Initiated contact with a new long-term substitute in fifth grade to share technology info.
  • Shared planning and scheduling info with building principal.

What do you have planned for next month?

  • Afterschool technology workshops: the AGSD server, digital cameras, PowerPoint.
  • We will meet to share and learn how to create a web page.
  • Attend the DLTC conference on April 11.
  • Set up the iLab in Room 9 for use on Tuesdays (in lieu of the classroom).
  • Assist support staff and long-term sub in using the iLab.
  • Continue to search for web links for teachers and students.
  • Learn to use a digital camcorder in a Windows platform and put the movie of our immigration play on my web page.
  • Put a Power Point presentation of classroom activities on my web page with the support of a Power Point viewer either locally on our server or available for download.

What help do you need?

  • A list of units covered by grade level in all subject areas would be a helpful tool to organize and research web links, software, etc. for teachers.
  • We are interested in scheduling a day with PLE ILT's (and any others) to learn to use Brinkster.
  • Anyone experienced in Windows digital movies or Power Point viewers for computers that do not have Power Point software?

What did you do this month?

  • Made a multicultural poster for Mrs. DiGiulio.
  • Worked on copying files onto disc with my new CD burner.
  • Reviewed Internet sites and sent them to the appropriate grade level.
  • Installed new CD programs onto a teacher's computers.
  • Continued to help with the printing of the labels for the report cards.
  • Made video clips with my digital camcorder for use at the end of the year retirement and closing of KES.
  • I continued to work with Adobe Photoshop Elements.
  • I inserted my first video clip into my end of the year Powerpoint presentation.
  • I investigated a new CD program that my grade level purchased and shared the information with my colleagues.
  • Downloaded and copied pictures for another teacher after she used my digital camera in her classroom.
  • Worked on scheduling concerns in KES.

What do you have planned for next month?

  • Coteaching with teachers who have not yet used the iLab.
  • Create a school/grade level "clipboard" of sites to use for various topics. It really does take a lot of time and energy to locate the appropriate site for grade levels
  • I would like to work on the memory difficulties of using an iMovie.
  • Plan after-school workshops after school to help teachers use technology. We tried a "coupon" approach, but still have not received the response that we feel that we should.
  • Complete the Immigration online Scavenger Hunt.
  • Develop a survey for teachers to share iLab ideas.

What help do you need?

  • Would it be possible to have a summer workshop simply dedicated to finding sites to use in your classroom? We would then put these sites on a central location for everyone to use.
  • Another idea would be to send out an e-mail requesting teachers to send in their links that are currently being used. We could then have a few teachers work on coordinating the sites by grade level and topics.
  • Clarifying to teachers that the use of the iLab can take various formats with the underlying goal of helping all students. Scheduling has been a "hot topic" at KES.

What did you do this month?

  • Half day to work with a teacher using the lab for the first time. Helped to set up the classroom and co-taught when needed.
  • Converted an iMovie to Quicktime to send as an attachment.
  • Planned two after school "Kemblesville Komputer" meetings.
  • Met with teachers after school to demonstrate use of Netscape email.
  • Reviewed the eboard tutorial.
  • Met with individual teachers to find out how I could "enable" them with our computer lab.
  • Set up the digital camcorder that I received through the grant. (I had been using the school's camcorder from the lab.)
  • Met with teachers to discuss various issues regarding the use of the iLab.
  • Set up address groups on the laptop.
  • Corresponded via email with staff regarding after-school meetings and computer issues.
  • Discussed scheduling issues with principal and ITLT.
  • Conferenced with a teacher to plan first-time use of iLab.

What do you have planned for next month?

  • We will meet for a full day for long-term technology planning at KES.
  • Search for websites for teacher use in grade 3-5 that relate to their curriculum and are readable by their students, including explorers and the elements for fifth grade.
  • Work with my iMovie of the holiday get together at our school.
  • Continue to offer support for grade 3-5 teachers who are not yet using the iLab.
  • Work with another second grade classroom to let them use the lab cooperatively with my class.
  • Co-teach with a teacher using the iLab for the first time.
  • Offer technology support on an individual basis for teachers in their classrooms at their own computers during curriculum planning time or brief after-school sessions.
  • Go back to the Profiler for support in our planning.

What help do you need?

  • How many teachers have set up web pages? I still don't have an answer as to their effectiveness and use. Personal comment from mt: I just don't have time to work on my classroom web page!
  • We continue to need ideas to enable teachers to incorporate technology into their lessons. How can we help teachers feel good about ITLTs, principals, and others who visit their classrooms during their initial attempts?

What did you do this month?

  • Evaluated Internet sites
  • Evaluated iBook Bundle software: World Book CD, Carmen Sandiego Word Detective
  • Instructed teachers in software use: Excel
  • Demonstrated the use of the iBook and peripherals to several staff members
  • Learned to use digital camcorder movies: split a video, make a still clip, save a clip or movie, send as e-mail
  • Contacted the librarian to set up a barcode sign-out system for technology items
  • Practiced and then implemented lessons using the iBook lab
  • Wrote a sample initial iLab plan for teachers

What did you do this month?

Leigh Anna:

  • Familiarized myself with the laptop.
  • Created e-mail folders and finding pins for the Profiler.
  • Used CDs Math Blaster/Imagination Express.
  • Helped staff member learn to save e-mails as a document on their desktop.
  • Set up the digital camcorder for the lab. (Unable to use it as we did not have any tapes for recording.)
  • Worked with the digital camera and learned how to use the teacher laptop with it and the disk.
  • Helped teachers with the launcher and Excel.

Mary Teresa:

  • Set up group emails to communicate with KES staff and SAS iLab users.
  • Showed a teacher how to make a table in Word.
  • Familiarized myself with the teacher iBook and the software in the bundle.
  • Planned initial lessons using the iLab in my classroom. Previewed Carmen Sandiego Word Finder and set up initial iBook lessons with this software.
  • Conferenced with a teacher about initial uses of the iLab.
  • Created a sign-up calendar for the iBook Lab, emailed teachers about scheduling the lab, and had signs laminated at Staples with basic cart instructions. (Instructions written by our tech aide.)
  • Researched web sites as a resource for basic computing skills. Shared with staff.

Leigh Anna & Mary Teresa: 

  • Met to discuss setting up the lab, suggestions and concerns. Building tech aide (Tina) participated.
  • Met to discuss how we can support teachers with initial iLab use.
  • E-mailed staff regarding various technology issues and our availability for support.
  • Attended Joyce & Craig’s initial iLab training for KES staff.
  • Learned how to use the projector (cool tool!)
  • Wrote plans for substitutes.

What help do you need?

  • Support in creating a classroom website/web page.
  • Password for Profiler data.

Questions:

  • How will supplies for iLab be funded? (cartridges, tapes, rechargeable batteries, etc.)
  • Our old PCs have been removed from the classrooms due to wiring difficulties at KES. What do we do with the old PCs - donate them, get rid of them, save them for the new building, start a “home loan” program?
  • Is grant money available to replace the PC "Accelerated Reader" software with the Mac version?
September
What did you do this month?

Leigh Anna:

  • I worked with a teacher using her attachments on e-mail.
  • Spent time making a sign up sheet for help and sent an e-mail to the others in KES to state that mt and I were ready.
  • Worked with an Excel document to be used by grades one and two.
  • Took both of the Profiler surveys.
  • Reviewed notebook on Kid Pix program.
  • Printed digital pictures for Grade 2 for a school project.
  • Played around with the parameters of my computer so that I would be better able to help others.
  • I worked on my new Powerpoint presentation for Back to School Night.

Mary Teresa:

  • Contacted Joyce Perry to obtain 2001-01 Technology Needs Assessment for KES.
  • Coordinated gr 3-4-5 initial staff training on iBooks/Lab with Joyce and Marie - schedule for October 9.
  • Assisted two teachers with application questions (Netscape, Word).
  • E-mailed gr 3-4-5 teachers with invitation to Apple Technology and Curriculum Integration Workshop.
  • Took the Profiler surveys.
  • Coordinated Profiler surveys with Marie.
  • Reviewed Inspiration and used it in Social Studies.
  • Previewed websites.

Leigh Anna and Mary Teresa:

  • Met to set our goals, introduction to staff, schedule, and needs assessment.
  • Met with principal to share goals.
  • Registered staff on Profiler.

What do you have planned for next month?

Leigh Anna:

  • I will be working with a staff member to help her use her new Earthwalk.

Mary Teresa:

  • I will teach a staff member the basics of Microsoft Word.
  • I hope to share "technology in the classroom" websites with teachers.
  • Communicate Profiler survey to staff.
  • Create a building mail group on Netscape.

Leigh Anna and Mary Teresa:

  • We hope to be working with our new laptops and the computer lab for the school.
  • We will assist staff in using Profiler, review the results in conjunction with the 2000-01 survey and continue long-term planning.
  • We will plan ways to meet with and support teachers.
  • We hope to implement ideas from the Apple Workshop 9/26-27.

What help do you need?

Leigh Anna:

  • I would love to have time to work on the lab. When will they potentially be available? Who will be setting up the schedule for their use?
  • I want to learn more about how to organize my computer with all of the information that I am receiving.

Mary Teresa:

  • Training for the iBook Lab.

  • Setting up software for camera on the laptop - our camera is not Mac comptabile and I've been doing this from home with help.
