1st Technology Lead Teachers Meeting Minutes.

  1. Introduction by Dr. Olivia Spencer, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction outlining responsibilities of Instructional Lead Teachers.

     In an effort to support teachers, the IT Lead Teacher can do the following:

    • Act as a liaison with district technology staff development specialists
    • Coordinate building level planning, implementation, and staff development of curriculum integration of technology consistent with district direction
    • Coordinate and conduct staff development in instructional technology for the school
    • Locate and share resources and information relating to instructional technology with the school and district.
    • Assist classroom teachers in using and integrating technology into the curriculum 
    • Other duties as needed by the school and teachers
  1. Introduction by Pat Sine, director of the Office of Educational Technology at the University of Delaware.
  1. Introduction of Instructional Technology Lead Teachers.  Discussion of resources and needs at each school.

    A main concern is to marshal resources to get more Educational Technology in everyday life. One need mentioned was writable CD drives and projection units.

    Our goal is to determine how we can help students achieve the standards. Technology helps us do this in a variety of ways. Instructional Technology Lead Teacher idea was modeled in the Brandywine School District in Wilmington, Delaware.  Our ITLTs will have varying degree of expertise, some technical and some curricular. We looked at the Brandywine Model online.

  2. Discussion of Duties.

    Pat defined YahooGroups listserv and setup of the Avon Grove ITLTs listserv and how to subscribe to it.

    Discussion of communication for group and district. E-mail, everyone has it, not everyone uses it in the district. It is easier to collect info and reach people electronically.  Monthly reports will be filed by the ITLTs with Pat Sine and posted on the web page @ http://www.udel.edu/sine/avongrove/

  3. Joyce Perry presented available resources to ITLTs and they will be posted online.
    1. Support for stipends for up to 3 hours per week and/or a half-day substitute.  This time is flexible with your own teaching schedule and there may be some weeks when you will not have any hours to submit.
    2. Support from Instructional Technology Specialists in the Avon Grove School District: Joyce Perry and Craig Miller and Technology Coordinator, Jerry Rabinowitz.
    3. Two Day Technology and Curriculum Integration Workshop from Apple: September 26 and 27, 2001 Available to 16 teachers who must attend both full day sessions. All lead teachers will be able to participate in this workshop and then other SAS teachers from grades 3-5 in the district will be offered the remaining openings. The Technology and Curriculum Integration Workshop focuses how to integrate Microsoft Office and the Internet to create dynamic, student-centered learning experiences.       
    4. Apple Learning Professional Development Online Courses. Up to 25 teachers in the district will be given a license to use the Apple Learning Professional Development Online Courses. The license for each teacher will be in effect from now through the summer of 2002. See Joyce Perry for activation code.
    5. Distance Learning Classes from Big Chalk - For Elementary Lead Teachers only. Licenses for 20 teachers from each elementary school to access bigchalk Critical Issues.  Present Courses available include: 
      • Aligning Standards with Curriculum and Assessment (Grade Level Focus: 3-8)
      • Enhancing Home-School Connection (Grade Level Focus: 3-8)
      • Creating Online Learning Environments (Grade Level Focus: K-8)
      • Meeting Public Accountability Requirements (Grade Level Focus: 3-12)
      • Safe Use of the Internet (Grade Level Focus: K-12)
      • Building Safe Learning Environments (Grade Level Focus: 9-1 2)
    6. Workshops to work with other IT Lead Teachers and district resources to collaborate and hone skills
    7. Monthly meetings to share information and strategies with other IT Lead Teachers and district resources
    8. Contracting with Pat Sine and the Office of Educational Technology at the University of Delaware for meetings, and online support.
  1. Discussion about reimbursement and which laptop each teacher would prefer to receive as an ITLT. Forms for reimbursement will be due by 25th of each month your request for payment to Dr. Spencer and monthly reports from lead teachers will be submitted electronically to Pat and be posted online. ITLTs may average 3 hours per week for reimbursement above contracted hours. ITLTs advised that they should be introduced and present their role to other teachers in their building by the first faculty meeting in September.
  1. Pat Sine handed out NETS for Students pamphlet, showed online database of lesson plans and showed online Link for NETS for Educators and Technology Standards for School Administrators. Introduction to the Profiler online collaboration tool – as an administrator, Pat set up http://profiler.hprtec.org


    Pat has an account set up with Profiler with our district and will give acct number and PIN number. Recommended that ITLT have teachers in their building take the survey.
  1. Discussion of Cyber Cafes.  If we offer Cyber Cafes for ½ hour before or after school, we will not submit stipends. Stipends will be offered for classes 1 hour or longer.
  1. Discussion of LoTi http://www.learning-quest.com/LoTi/ (Level of Technology Implementation) Recommended ITLT look at these descriptions and determine where your teachers are presently on the scale.
  1. Pat gave out NCREL Technology Integration Planning Chart and also NCTP perceived Education Technology Needs Survey. ITLTs were asked to fill out the NCTP Survey for discussion for the next meeting.
