AGITL Minutes February 21,2002

Attendance:  Pat Sine, Craig Miller, Joyce Perry, Pat McKeon, Michelle Albright, MT Maule-Alft, Leanne Hubbartt, Mary King, Leigh Anna Moran, Rachel Moyer, Karen Norris, Debbie Parker, Jennifer Waite

  1. Discussion of Photo Editing

  2. Middle School issue – Should teachers save all stuff to the network in preparation for most teachers changing rooms next year?
    1. Craig will work with the middle school to see that teachers can move their computers with them.
    2. Teachers should be saving to the network for security reasons.  If space becomes an issue, Craig and others will help figure out how to allocate or increase space.  Note:  saving iMovies in progress is another issue.

  3. Karen Norris talked about the videos her club is producing, including a promo for the school play to be posted on the district site and a public service movie on asthma for the school nurse.

  4. Discussion about getting projectors for classrooms led to the reminder to check peppm.org for products on the state bid list.

  5. It was noted that as the new budgets are formulated they should include LCD projectors to better support full-class instruction.  Although scan converters to display computer output on TV are cheap, the size of the screens are too small to support real work.

  6. Craig and Joyce both presented on their experiences at PETC.  Their presentations are linked to the agenda so everyone can revisit items that caught their attention.

  7. Discussion of renewal of Homeroom.com – Teachers were in 100% agreement that this should not be renewed.  Although there were many issues with the time to get each class ready as well as time to accomplish the assessments, the bigger issue was that even if it worked well it would not produce the desired outcomes.  The testing results in skills-based prescription rather than projects and lessons that require higher-order thinking.

  8. ALL ITLs reported (including Kathy Sherman who couldn’t attend) that they would like to return as ITLs next year.  However, those teachers who will be going to the new school advised that an ITL should be placed in each pod/wing/unit.  If assignments result in one wing being overrepresented and one under, the ITLs would resign in favor of someone in the needed wing.  Note – as teachers are placed, they were concerned that the first consideration be their primary teaching role not the ITL role.
