Progress Report on SAS project:
Hardware purchases and distribution: Jerry Rabinowitz
Report from Jerry on iLabs - implementation is going well Printing
issue has been solved.
Staff development that has taken place and is planned: Joyce Perry
and Craig Miller.
Terra Nova testing for grades 3 and 4 in 2002: Dr. Olivia Spencer provided
a handout of information and testing dates. Reading specialists did
testing last year and will handle it again in the Spring of 2002 for
grades 3 and 4.
Mobile labs: Are there any issues that need SAS Project Team attention?
- AGE -Consumables -
Where are they coming from? Who pays for them?
If individual schools are responsible for consumables, they need to
know in advance so that these supplies can be figured into the budget.
Suggestion for future grants - to try and write consumables into the
budget.
- Printing Issues
Pat Sine suggested to teachers to manage instruction so that you are
not printing everything. The Middle school got 4 laser printers instead
of 56 inkjet printers with computers this year. MT suggested that one
could also set printing options for draft copies instead of best quality.
Object lesson that kids could understand. The wireless printer is working
at PLE and the solution will be applied at KES and AGE.
- There is a problem at AGE with the ilab cart not fitting through
the door to the portables
We need to come up with other solutions. Suggestions were made to get
a smaller cart for those teachers in portables or have the students
pick them up from the building and carry them to the portable classrooms.
- Easy ways to get files transferred to computers?
Kathy Sherman - presented a solution for easy solution to file transfer.
At PLE there is a guest login. Other schools allowed to access PLE server.
This solution will be set up for all three SAS schools.
- PLE Who is responsible for questions that arise with the iLab?
What is the chain of command? - first line, tech aide - other issues,
if hardware call Jerry or Christine, if it is a software issue, call
Craig or Joyce.
Dr. Spencer: 2 other issues.
- Karen Norris has been helpful in submitting hours but still some glitches
in the system. When you put hours in, do you put in as an hour, fraction,
and decimal?
Pat Sine has received questions from ITLTs about posting courses for
Karen Norris with mylearningplan.com We don't know which administrator
is viewing form for final approval. Any ITLTs need to send lists to
Karen, she will compile and send on to Olivia for approval. Does anyone
have a problem posting the offerings? Tell Karen the course and she
will post it.
- How many teachers from the SAS grant are using our vendor solutions,
homeroom.com and EdVision's Skills
connection? Look at alternatives and feedback for Year 3 grant proposal.
Asked teachers to examine EdVision's Performance Series at www.edperformance.com
Discussion about a term limit for ITLTs.
Dr. Spencer asked the group to think it over before the next meeting.
Possibilities include a year, or 2-year limit, a staggered term, a rotating
staggered term. The SAS Grant funds some of the lead teacher initiative.
The district would look for ways to continue the ITLT Initiative for
next year.
Jerry Rabinowitz-
There are two tentative dates for a district wide Technology Fair.
Dates are Saturday, March 9 or April 20. The technology fair would showcase
what students are doing with technology in the district. Start talking
to teachers about what they are doing.
Progress Report from ITLTs: What has your building team been doing
that you would like to share (2 minutes)?
- Avon Grove Elementary: Deb Parker and Michelle Albright
There is excitement with the children using the iLabs. There is positive
collaboration when a teacher took information and shared with their
grade level. It is comforting for teachers to know that at least two
people in the building can be counted on for support for technology
integration.
- Kemblesville Elementary: Leigh Anna Moran and Mary
Teresa Maule Alft
Teachers are becoming empowered by technology and using it in the curriculum.
The Principal sees conversations and interactive lessons with students
and faculty. Time is an issue. People are talking about technology in
a different way and becoming more confident.
- Penn London: Pat McKeon, Rachel Moyer and Kathy Sherman
There is a lot of enthusiasm with the labs. Some teachers are doing
some problem solving on own. In one grade level the biggest frustration
is that the server goes down often and students and teachers lose work
or cannot save work. There is an agreement that participation and willingness
to try new things in good. "Kids as experts" has worked at
PLE with students teaching other students in a different class.
- Middle School: Leanne Hubbartt and Karen Norris
When the Middle School received iMacs instead of PCs, there has been
some resistance to new learning. They already have space issues with
overcrowding this year, and many teachers have not wanted to tackle
new learning, when comfortable with other platform. The support at the
Middle School has increased teachers' desire to use technology. The
ITLTs are going to offer Mac classes.
- High School: Mary King and Jen Waite
Please see online report to see what the High School ITLTs are doing.
Next meeting January 17 for next meeting.
