  1. Rich Scott-Harper on using a TabletPC with a wireless LCD projector compared with SmartBoards
The group spent quite awhile learning how to use the TabletPC in conjunction with a LinkSys wireless presentation device.

The task was to compare a SmartBoard set up to the TabletPC setup. Cost of SmartBoard+Computer at $1400 plus $1500. Cost of TabletPC plus router is about $2300. However, the SmartBoard can be used with the existing classroom computer and the TabletPC would be a separate, more expensive computer. In both examples, the LCD projector is also needed.

From the discussion, two items emerged.
    1. Teachers would like LCD projectors permanently mounted in the classrooms to make best use of current investment. If not all classrooms can be done at once, do as many as possible.
    2. The TabletPC is clearly an excellent solution for the HS and MS. Questionis arose regarding flexibility and durability when used in the elementary classrooms. However, LeighAnna's 6-year-old daughter was present and used the TabletPC with almost no help.
    3. Amendment from Craig:
"I think you omitted a couple key advantages of the TabletPC mentioned by Rich Scott-Harper. Specifically, the mobility of the electronic presentation when using the TabletPC. Rich mentioned that he often is walking through the classroom and positioning himself strategically while writing on the electronic board. This flexibility avoids blocking the board when writing on the TabletPC. In addition, the TabletPC is a fully functional wireless laptop. If you would use your current computer, your smartboard would be tethered to your classroom computer."

    And Linda adds:
"The Smart boards do have a wireless option. The part number is WC2-NA and the PEPPM price is $358."
