I am sending this information to clarify guidelines for the program.
An ITLT meeting that had been planned last summer had to be canceled
because of the AGEA job action. Therefore, the ITLTs have not had
an opportunity to meet with me and ITLT facilitator Pat Sine to
discuss how the program will operate in 2002-2003.
Initially this year we are allocating more time to the secondary
ITLTs than to the elementary and intermediate ITLTs. This is because
in past years we have concentrated staff development through the
Students Achieving Standards grant at the lower levels and the secondary
levels received fewer resources. Once the ITLTs begin to meet on
a regular basis, we will assess on an ongoing basis how the program
is working and make determinations about how to best serve the students
of the district.
SECONDARY ITLTs:
The guidelines for secondary ITLTs are as follows: Middle School
and High School ITLTs are allowed a maximum of 1/2 day released
time per week, as well as 3 hours with stipends for work that extends
beyond the school day. The substitutes and stipends will be paid
through this office. They may begin this week or as soon as they
are ready. The ITLTs are not required to devote a minimum amount
of time to helping with the technology program. They normally are
the ones to decide how they should spend their hours, although it
is assumed that their work will be coordinated with the building
principal and subject to his or her approval. ITLTS may begin this
week to log hours, if there is a need. With the new mobile labs,
I assume there is a need.
ELEMENTARY AND INTERMEDIATE ITLTS:
Elementary and intermediate ITLTs may begin logging up to 3 hours
per week, beginning this week but will not be able to use the half
day released time until further notice, unless unusual circumstances
warrant a waiver. We will discuss this when we get together to plan
how we will work this year.
REQUEST FOR PAYMENT
ITLTs should contact Jo Anne Davis if they are unsure how to request
payment. They should follow the regular procedures for securing
a substitute; i.e., they request released time from the principal,
who generates a request for a substitute. When the buildings submit
their substitute reports to the district office, they should place
my initials in parentheses (OS) after the name of the teacher who
received the substitute. This alerts the business office to let
Jo Anne Davis look at it and to keep track of the Curriculum and
Instruction budget this way.
Please feel free to call or email any questions.
Thanks for helping to make this program a success.
