The Irish are sometimes known for their gift of storytelling. Keeping up with the Irish tradition, I'd like to tell you the story of how I came to be.
During the early 1900's there lived a young man in Co. Offaly, Ireland. He lived with his family on a large sheep farm. One day, the young man decided he wanted to go to America to seek his fortune. Much to his family's dismay, the young man "borrowed" his family's life savings and took a trip to America. That young man was my Grandfather, James Egan. While in America, he met and married Mary Keane and they produced two children. One of their children is my mother, Mary.
As you can see by my name, my roots are not only in Ireland, but in Germany as well.
The first Liebner, Joseph, came to America from Bad Konigshofen, Germany during the middle 1800's. He settled in Pottsville, Pa., where today there is still a street named after the Liebner family. My father is a descendant of Joseph Liebner.
During the 1950's my father, James Liebner, and my mother Mary Egan, were married. They produced 10 children, the youngest being myself and my twin brother Michael. I am proud of my Irish/German roots, and look forward to visiting both Ireland and Germany some day.
