My father's side of the family came from Poland during the early nineteenth century. My mother's side of the family came from Russia. My grandmother came from Poland when she was a young girl. She came to America in a crowded ship. My mother's parents were born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Religious holiday's have always been very important to my family. My mother always tells my sister and I stories about how she used to help my grandmother set the table for Passover dinner or how the whole family would walk to temple together for Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur services. Even today we meet my grandfather at temple on Yom Kippur for services and then go my back to my grandparents for a big dinner to break the fast. Another tradition which has been in my family for a long time is keeping a kosher home. I grew up in a kosher home and will probably do the same in my own home. One more tradition in my family is during the year my grandfather saves his spare change from the end of the day in a piggy bank and every hanukkah we split up the change and each side of the family receives part.

The most interesting person in my family is my grandpa Sonny who is an original Knickerbocker. He played basketball in college and then in the N.B.A. He played for the Capitals, Celtics and Knicks. He played in the very first N.B.A. game. He has been in many magezines and sports books. He was also inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame. There was a big ceremony and he received a plaque. I have also seen my grandfather play in the legend game. This takes place annually after a knick game. He has played and coached.
