My family comes mainly from Switzerland. On my father's side of the family, his mother's family and father's family moved from Switzerland to the United States during the eighteen-hundreds. We do not have quite as much information on my father's side of the family as we do on my mother's side of the family. On my mother's side of the family, her father's father was from northern Switzerland. He was born in St. Gallen where he could ski to school every day. The family name was Schoenberger which meant "beautiful mountains" in Swiss. He was one of my main inspirations in learning other languages. He fluently spoke his native language along, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English, and Pennsylvania Dutch. He moved here around the eighteen-ninety's. My mother's mother's side of the family was from Sweden. They moved here to the United States in the late sixteen-hundreds as farmers. One interesting fact about her side of the family is that they got a land grant from William Penn. It was interesting finding out some of the smaller details about my cultural heritige. This encouraged me to find out even more about my history.
