What is the Internet?
The Internet is a collection of computer
networks that connects thousands of computers around the world, including the one
on your desktop. The Internet is a vast source of information that is constantly changing
and expanding. Since its creation in the 1960's, it has grown exponentially and is
now used by millions of people, from commercial and educational institutions to individual
consumers.
The Internet provides many services, including
- electronic
mail, which lets people exchange messages with others on the Internet;
- newsgroups,
where Internet users can read others' opinions and voice their own;
- World Wide Web,
which consists of millions of interlinked "pages" stored on computers
all over the world.
