For: Room changes before Winter/Spring
Available: End of Fall Semester

For: Room changes for the next academic year
Available: Late Spring

Please note that room change periods are tentative and might not be offered every semester.

Students who move from one hall or room type to a different hall or room type will be charged the published rate for the new space from the effective date of move-in.

Mid-Semester Room Change

If you want to move during the semester, you, the student, should initiate the Mid-Semester Room Change process by speaking to your Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC). You should expect to discuss why you're requesting a move and your preferences for a new location.

When the meeting is successfully completed, log into the My Housing portal and you'll see the Mid-Semester Room Change form. Indicate the new room and building you want to move to, based on your discussion with your Residence Hall Coordinator.

We'll notify you by email whether your request has been approved or denied. If your request is approved, you'll receive instructions on picking up a key for your new space.

At that point, you need to make arrangements with your new Residence Hall Coordinator to pick up your new key, and arrange to return your key to your current Residence Hall Coordinator.

You must move within 48 hours of room change notification.

Mid-Year Room Change

If you want to move to another space after for the Winter/Spring semesters, you can participate in Find A Vacancy.

If you have an open space in your room or expect that a space will open for the Spring, you have the option to actively seek out a new roommate or to connect with someone looking for a roommate. You will likely receive a new roommate for the Spring.

Moving for Winter or Spring 2019? You'll need to move all of your belongings out of your room at the end of Fall Semester. Read more about Moving Your Belongings.

For students living in First Year and Upper Division areas

First year students can move into both first year and upper division buildings for Spring semester, while upper division students can only move within other upper division buildings.

How It Works
  • To find a vacancy on campus, log in to the My Housing Portal and select Mid-Year Room Change from the Home Menu. Select 'Find a Vacancy' from the drop-down menu.
  • Search for an open space on campus by Room Type or Room Location.
  • If you see a space that meets your needs, select it and confirm the room change. Congratulations -- you have a new room assignment for Winter/Spring!

If you are assigned to a Living Learning Community, you should only move within that community.

FYI: We reserve the right to review and reverse any improper room exchanges.

Have a new housing assignment for Winter/Spring?

  • At the end of Fall semester, you'll need to remove all of your belongings from your Fall room assignment. Please leave your room in a good condition for the new student.
  • You need to check out of your Fall assignment with a Residence Life & Housing staff member in your residence hall, including turning in your key.
  • See your RA if you have any questions about end of semester checkout. Not vacating your current space properly could result in an improper checkout fee ($150) and possible Student Conduct action.

If you are living on campus for Winter Session, you should move in to your Winter/Spring assignment on the appropriate Winter Session move-in day. If you are not living on campus during Winter Session, you will move into your new room at the start of the Spring semester.
