Room Changes

Types of Room Changes

  • Room Change Before Fall Move-In
    For: Room changes before the Fall Semester begins
    Available: End of summer
  • Mid-Semester Room Change
    For: Room changes before the semester ends
    Available: During the semester
    We are not currently processing Mid-Semester Room Changes.
  • Mid-Year Room Change
    For: Room changes before Winter/Spring
    Available: End of Fall Semester
  • Room Change Before Spring Close
    For: Room changes for the next academic year
    Available: Late Spring

Students who move from one hall or room type to a different hall or room type will be charged the published rate for the new space from the effective date of move-in.

Room Changes Before Fall Move-In

August 7-16, 2017
For students living in First-Year and Upper Division areas

Mutual Room Exchange allows you to swap rooms with another student.

  • Students living in First-Year areas may swap with other students living in First-Year areas;
  • Students living in Upper Division areas may swap with other students living in Upper Division areas.

To participate in Mutual Room Exchange, log in to the My Housing portal and select Mutual Room Exchange from the Student Home page.

Upper Division Students

First Year Students
In order to participate in your assigned Living Learning Community, you will live in a specially designated residence hall or complex. Please remember to only list your designated residence hall as a preference.

How It Works

  • List preferences for where you would like to live for the Fall and post your current assignment for swap. Note: your currently assigned roommate(s) will be informed that you have made your space available for exchange.
  • Search for other available spaces and make or receive offers to swap.
  • Accept or reject offers. The swap is not complete until the student who initiated the offer finalizes the swap.


August 7-16, 2017
For students living in First-Year and Upper-Division areas

To find a vacancy on campus, you will log in to the My Housing portal and select Find a Vacancy from the Student Home page.

You can search for an open space on campus by Room Type, Location, Available Beds, or any combination of these. You can see the profile of students living in the room, suite or apartment to help you determine if they are a good match for you as a roommate.

If you see a space that meets your needs, select it and confirm the room change.

Mid-Semester Room Change

If you wish to move during the semester, you, the student, should initiate the Mid-Semester Room Change process by speaking to your Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC). You should expect to discuss your reasons for requesting a move and your preferences for a new location.

When the meeting is successfully completed, log in to the My Housing portal and you will see the Mid-Semester Room Change form. Indicate the new room and building you wish to move to, based on your discussion with your Residence Hall Coordinator.

You will be notified by email whether your request has been approved or denied. If your request is approved, you will receive instructions on picking up a key for your new space.

At that point, you must make arrangements with your new Residence Hall Coordinator to pick up the new key, and arrange to return your key to your current Residence Hall Coordinator.

Students must move within 48 hours of room change notification.
