Upper-Division Room Selection

Upper-Division students who completed the Housing application by September 29, 2017 are guaranteed housing for 2018-2019, but may not have been selected for initial Open Room Selection in March.

Spring 2018 Transfer students and transitioning AAP students are also guaranteed housing for 2018-2019 if they apply March 1-30, 2018. These students will receive a time slot for room selection in later rounds.

We'll be offering room selection time slots to guaranteed students by early April, and throughout the spring and summer.

Be sure to read through the information below, and if you still have questions, contact our office on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram; by email at reslife-housing@udel.edu; or call (302) 831-HOME (4663).

DO I HAVE A MARCH TIME SLOT OR LATER ROUND TIME SLOT?

If you applied in September and you don't remember whether you have an initial March time slot or if you'll select a room in later rounds, check your messages in the My Housing portal.

After logging in, you should see a number in a red bubble next to your name in the upper right hand of the screen. A drop-down list under your name will help you get to your messages.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO GETS A MARCH TIME SLOT?

Each year, we determine how many students we expect to complete the second-year housing application and therefore, how many spaces will be available for upper-division students during the room selection in March.

Every upper division student who applied before the end of September was assigned a random lottery number with no regard to class year or cumulative credits.

Roommate Group time slots are based on the average of the random lottery numbers of each member of the group.

WHERE WILL I LIVE?

Returning students live in upper division buildings.

WHEN WILL I SELECT MY HOUSING?

If you are not selecting during the initial round of room selection, you will select housing after everyone who select a room in the initial room selection in March.

When you select a room is based on your random lottery number.

Therefore, it may be that not all options are available to you when it is your turn to select.

Later rounds of room selection will begin after spring break and may continue throughout the spring and summer.

We typically email you with 5 days notice before your time slot. It is important that you check your University email regularly.

STUDENT HOUSING CONTRACT

The Student Housing Contract is legally binding by the following dates:

  • 3 business days after room selection or assignment;
  • April 2 for upper-division guaranteed students who have not selected a room or been assigned a room as of April 2, 2018; or
  • 3 business days after being guaranteed if that occurs after April 2, 2018.

If you choose to, you may cancel your housing application. If you cancel

before Nov. 1, 2017, you will receive a refund of your housing prepayment.

after Nov. 1, 2017, your prepayment will not be refunded.

Until you are bound to the Student Housing Contract, you may cancel your housing application. If you cancel, you will forfeit your housing prepayment.

To cancel your housing application, complete a Request for Release in the My Housing portal.

Full contract information is available in the Student Housing Contract.

Information about off-campus housing opportunities is available from the Office of the Dean of Students. Places 4 Students provides both off-campus listings and sublet opportunities for University of Delaware students.

CAN I SELECT A NEW ROOMMATE IN MARCH?

Students who are participating in March room selection may select roommates in February.

When you select a room is based on your random lottery number.

We cannot alter those numbers; however, when you are selecting your room, you can view profile information of students in rooms so that you can select a suitable roommate at that time.

If you formed a roommate group during Open Enrollment in September, you may have the option to select a room together in subsequent rounds, based on availability of open rooms.

If you know someone who is selecting a space during initial room selection in March, but you will select in a later round, they cannot pull you in to a roommate group for room selection in March.

We selected the number of students we would have spaces for during the initial round of room selection, therefore we cannot add more students to that round.

CAN I REMOVE MYSELF FROM MY ROOMMATE GROUP IN MARCH?

You can remove yourself from a group in March.

We cannot alter lottery numbers, so you will still be selected for room selection at the same time as other members of your group, but you do not have to assign yourselves together if you remove yourself from the group.

CAN I STILL REQUEST A LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITY OR OTHER HOUSING OPTION?

In September, you were able to indicate if you had a preference for a Living Learning Community or Other Housing Option.

If you have a March time slot, you can return to the housing application in February and apply to an LLC or other housing option.

If you are selecting in later rounds, or applying in March, you will receive an email in March indicating that you can return to the housing application if you want to apply for an LLC or other housing options.

As we receive spaces in those communities, we will contact students who have not yet selected and who have indicated interest in the LLC with a vacancy. Students will be contacted in the order of their random lottery number and will be placed if they qualify for that community.
