Undergraduate: General Information

On-campus housing for undergraduate students is guaranteed if we receive your application by the posted deadline.

All students should review the Student Housing Contract.

CURRENT FIRST-YEAR RETURNING STUDENTS -- The application for first-year students applying for SECOND-YEAR HOUSING for 2017-2018 will have two application periods:

  • Early Bird Application: October 3 - October 31, 2016
    Students will complete the first steps of the housing application and will be guaranteed housing for 2017-2018, but will need to return in February to complete the application.
  • Open Enrollment: February 1 - February 28, 2017
    Students who applied in October will finish additional steps of the housing application. Students who miss the Early Bird application can also apply.

A self-select feature works like selecting an airline or concert seat, which means students will need to be prepared to act when their time slot opens in order to get their preferred option.

Applications received after the deadline will be accommodated as space permits.

Guaranteed Housing Deadline for Second-Year Housing for 2017-2018: February 28, 2017

CURRENT UPPER-DIVISION STUDENTS – Upper-division students may apply for 2017-2018 housing during UPPER-DIVISION OPEN ENROLLMENT: September 1 – September 30, 2016.

Applications received after the deadline will be accommodated as space permits.


ASSOCIATE IN ARTS TRANSITIONING STUDENTS

    Associate in Arts students can apply for upper-division 2017-2018 housing using the Upper-Division Housing Application during UPPER-DIVISION OPEN ENROLLMENT: September 1 – September 30, 2016.
    A self-select feature works like selecting an airline or concert seat, which means students will need to be prepared to act when their time slot opens in order to get their preferred option.

Applications received after the deadline will be accommodated as space permits.


FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS
Single freshmen under 21 are required to live in University housing, or at home with a parent or legal guardian if the residence is within a 30-mile commuting distance. Requests for exceptions to this policy must be submitted in writing to Residence Life & Housing.

The housing application for 2016-2017 opened on March 1. Housing assignments are NOT first-come, first-served. When completing the housing application, please be aware that there are a number of factors that determine where you live on campus. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that you will receive your top preferences.

TRANSFER STUDENTS
The on-campus housing application for transfer students for Fall opened on March 1.

Please go to the Transfer Guide for more information on applying for housing for 2016-2017.

Housing was guaranteed for the vast majority, if not all, newly admitted transfer students for the 2016–17 academic year. Transfer students will be primarily housed in our transfer community located in Smyth Hall. Priority is based on housing application completion date.

Graduate Student and Family Housing

If you are a full-time, single graduate student or a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who wishes to live with your spouse, children, or other individuals who constitute your family, you are eligible to live in Graduate Student & Family Housing as long as you are registered and in good academic standing at the University of Delaware.

Students enrolled in 4+1 progams at the University of Delaware should use the Upper Division Returning Student application process and timeline.

The Graduate Student & Family Housing application for 2016-2017 opened on April 1.

For 2017-2018 housing:

Students who are current residents of Graduate Student & Family housing will apply in October 2016 for 2017-2018 housing.
Everyone who applies by October 31 will take part in a lottery in early November to determine who receives a room assignment and who is placed on the non-guaranteed wait list.

Students who are new applicants for Graduate Student & Family housing can apply in March - May 2017 for 2017-2018 housing.
Everyone who applies March 1 - May 31 will take part in a lottery in early June to determine who receives a room assignment and who is placed on the non-guaranteed wait list.
