One thing people will often wonder about is how these animals breathe in the water. And if you look at this male here...let me get this... he won't open up here...but the water goes in here. There's a little opening here when he closes up, if I can get him to do it. You can see there's a little gap there. The water goes in there and then goes across his book gills, right there. And you may wonder why we call them book gills, and if I can get him to cooperate here you'll see, they look like the pages of a book. And that's why they're called book gills. And again, the water comes in this little opening here, flows through this chamber, and then that flows out through the back here where these little two grooves are. So the water comes in here, through here, and then down and out.
