How To Use The Scanners

Using the Mac scanner is suprisingly straight-forward. It is easiest to scan images using the software package Ofoto, which can be found aliased under the Apple Menu on M18.

Start Ofoto and place your image to be scanned in the upper right hand corner of the scanner. Ofoto opens up a dialog box and asks the user to select the method of scanning (choices are color, grayscale, and line art). You can also choose the precision that the image should be scanned with. As a note, the higher the dpi rate, the greater the precision, and consequently the larger the file that will be created.

Once you have set the scanning options, click on the SCAN button. In a few moments the scanner will import your image, attempt to straighten it, and attempt to discern the edges of the image.

If you would like to crop (cut) the image down further, click on the image and drag the mouse around to create a box around the area you would like to preserve and then choose the CROP option under the EDIT menu. Press the SCAN button again and your cropped image will now be rescaned and saved.

Other options such as picture rotation, color editing, text enhancement, etc... are available, but are left up to the user as an exercise of thier curiosity. Similar editing to the image may be done after the scanning use programs like Adobe Photoshop (recommended) or MacDraw II (not so recommended).
