May 10, 2017

Dear University of Delaware Retiree:

I would like to invite you to attend the Benefits & Wellness Fair on Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Trabant University Center Multipurpose Room.

Please review the 2017-2018 Benefits Guide, where you can learn what’s new for the 2017-2018 plan year.

Benefits Open Enrollment for University of Delaware Retirees is May 10-26, 2017. Please watch for our Open Enrollment mailing to arrive at your home address. If you or your spouse are under age 65, this is the once-a-year opportunity to make changes to your Non-Medicare medical coverage as well as dental and vision for all retirees. If you would like to make changes, be sure to contact our office at hrhelp@udel.edu or 302-831-2171 no later than May 26, 2017. Please keep in mind that any changes you make during Open Enrollment will be effective July 1, 2017.

Health, Dental, and Vision Plan changes effective July 1, 2017:

What You Need To Know:

  • Aetna will be the only health plan administrator for the HMO plan and the CDH Gold Plan as of July 1. The IPA/HMO Plan and CDH Gold Plan offered through Highmark Delaware will no longer be available effective July 1. Highmark Delaware will continue to administer the First State Basic PPO Plan and Comprehensive PPO Plan.
    • Currently enrolled in either the Highmark Delaware IPA/HMO or Highmark Delaware CDH Gold Plan
      • If you take no action during Open Enrollment, you will be automatically defaulted into the corresponding Aetna HMO Plan or Aetna CDH Gold Plan for the plan year that begins July 1.
      • Important: HMO members are required to select a Primary Care Provider (PCP). Employees who default or enroll in the Aetna HMO plan and do not select a PCP during Open Enrollment will have one assigned to them by Aetna.
    • There will be no rate changes to your non-Medicare health, dental, and vision on July 1.
    • For current participants, MetLife life insurance premiums will increase on July 1 (see chart below).  Should you have questions, please contact MetLife at 866-492-6983.

(For July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2021)

Age Monthly Rate per $1,000
Under 50 $0.225

60-64 $0.705

70-74 $2.201
75 and over $2.730

Special Medicfill health insurance premiums will not increase at this time.

  • Retirees, spouses and dependents who are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B for primary medical coverage and are also eligible for, or enrolled in the Highmark BCBSD Special Medicfill Medicare Supplement plan, DO NOT make changes in Special Medicfill coverage during this Open Enrollment period. A separate Open Enrollment period will be available in October 2017 for calendar year 2018.
  • If your spouse is not yet age 65 and is enrolled in a non-Medicare health plan, you must complete a Spousal Coordination of Benefits form at this time.
  • If your spouse is covered under the Highmark BCBSD Special Medicfill Medicare Supplement plan, you do not need to complete a Spousal Coordination of Benefits form at this time, unless your spouse’s employment or health insurance status has changed since July 1, 2012.
