-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DIRECTING STUDENTS: Your students should be able to access this WebCT course tomorrow. You might want to remind them to visit the UD WebCT page (http://www.udel.edu/webct) and click "For Students" to get started with WebCT. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DENIED ACCESS: If a student receives an "Access Denied" error when he tries to log on to a WebCT course, most likely it is the result of the student being temporarily inactivated on the university roster. First, have the student check with the Registrar's Office to see if there are any problems with his record. When the official record is correct, check to see how the student is listed in your WebCT course on the Student Management table (from the Navigation Bar, click Manage Course, then Manage Students). If he has a * next to his username, you as a designer can restore his access. You can find instructions for re-establishing this at http://www.udel.edu/webct/managestudents.html. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHECKING STUDENT ACCESS: To ensure that your students have proper access to your WebCT courses: 1. Check the online list of courses and sections at http://www.udel.edu/webct/current-webct-unix.html. Remember to verify that all sections of cross-listed courses are included. 2. Check the Student Management Table in your WebCT courses: a. From the Navigation Bar, click "Manage Course." b. Click "Manage Students." c. If the Update Log appears, click the "Return to Manage Students" link. d. Remember that you can view one page of students or all of them using the options at the top left of the table. In the table: a. If a registered student is not listed, he or she may not have set a Unix username yet. We recommend that ALL students new to WebCT follow the step-by-step instructions on http://www.udel.edu/webct under the "For Students" link. b. The usernames for students who drop courses will be marked with +*. You can find details for removing them from the roster completely at http://www.udel.edu/webct/managestudents.html. c. The usernames for students who drop and re-add a course will be marked with *. These students will receive an "Access Denied" error when they try to log on to the course and must have access restored by the instructor. You can find instructions for re-establishing their access at http://www.udel.edu/webct/managestudents.html. If you find any problems with your WebCT rosters, please contact consult@udel.edu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTRUCTIONS FOR REQUESTING WEBCT COURSES If you plan to use WebCT for your courses, you must complete an official course request form (http://www.udel.edu/webct/request.html). Be sure to include all sections and course numbers on the form. In WebCT, courses are created based on course number and semester, and students are given access to a WebCT course for the semester in which they are enrolled. If a course is offered for a second time using WebCT, you must still ask for a new WebCT course before the beginning of each semester. Deadlines for course requests are generally 4 weeks prior to the start of the semester, and the specific dates will be published at http://www.udel.edu/webct. Faculty may submit WebCT course requests as soon as they know their official teaching schedule. We encourage this to avoid the rush when a term begins. If you will be using some of the same WebCT tools and links from an existing course in your new course, for the question on the form "Should this WebCT course be blank, or based on a previous WebCT course?" select "Previous" and indicate the previous course in the next box (e.g., "ARTH150 Spring 2002"). You also can ask that a new course be based on your practice course by typing "INTRO" in that box. If you have any questions or problems, please contact webct-info@udel.edu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REQUESTING AN OFFICIAL COURSE: To make sure we have all the pertinent information, you can fill out an Official Course Request form. Go to the web page www.udel.edu/webct, click the "For Faculty" link at the top and then, on the left, click the link to "New Course Request ". Fill in the form and click the Submit button. If you'll be using material from a previous semester, for the question on the form "Should this WebCT course be blank, or based on a previous WebCT course?" select "Previous" and indicate the previous course in the next box (e.g., "NTDT255-150 Spring 2002"). After you fill in the form, click the Submit button. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTRO REQUIREMENT: You are registered for the WebCT XXXXX class DDDDD.
