Installing and Using McAfee VirusScan

As of June 1, 2019, we will stop support for McAfee VirusScan. We recommend using Avast Security for macOS systems, and the built-in Windows Defender program for Windows 10.

The following pages will help you install and use the UD-customized version of McAfee VirusScan.

The University offers a licensed copy of McAfee VirusScan for employee-, student-, and University-owned computers. If you are unsure of your eligibility to download the UD-licensed version, click Contact Us at the bottom of this page.

If you download and install VirusScan from UDeploy, your computer will automatically check for updates when you connect to the Internet and daily at 3:00 p.m. McAfee will also scan your computer for viruses every Wednesday at about noon if your computer is on (Windows computers ONLY).

To install and use VirusScan, follow the instructions below for your operating system.

For computers exhibiting signs of an infection:

  • If you are a University employee whose University-owned computer exhibits signs of an infection, you must contact the IT Professional for your unit/department for help. Do not follow this guide. No fees apply.
  • If you are a University employee or student whose personal computer exhibits signs of an infection, you may follow this guide or make an appointment to have your computer cleaned. Submit a Help Ticket Request or call the IT Support Center at (302) 831-6000. Charges apply.
