UDel Secure

UDel Secure is eduroam's alternative network that can be used by University employees when accessing confidential, critical information over the Internet (i.e., PII). The UDel Secure network is protected with WPA2 Enterprise encryption and 802.1X authentication.
Note: These directions are applicable to all systems running Windows 7 or later, Mac OS X 10.8 or later, and all modern phones and tablets. If you are using an older device, contact the IT Support Center by calling (302) 831-6000, emailing consult@udel.edu, or sending a text message to (302) 722-6820.
Use the links below for system-specific directions on connecting.
  • Connecting on Windows

    1. Click the Internet access icon in the task bar and select UDel Secure. Check Connect automatically and click Connect.

    3. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password and click OK. login

      • If a Security Alert window appears, click Connect.

    4. Click the Internet access icon in the task bar again. Click Open Sharing and Network Center.

    8. If UDel Secure is not listed first, click and drag it to the top of the list. The Network window should now look similar to the following—with UDel Secure listed first.

    10. Open your favorite browser and navigate to any site.

    11. On the page that appears, click Register this computer.

      • Do not click UDel Secure.

    13. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password, as well as a description of your device like "my laptop." Click Login.

    15. Your computer is now connected to the UDel Secure network.
  • Connecting on Mac

    1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and select UDel Secure.

    3. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password, check Remember this network, and click Join. login

      • If a Verify Certificate window appears, click Continue.

      • Enter your Mac password and click Update Settings.

    4. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar again. Click Open network preferences....

    8. If UDel Secure is not listed first, click and drag it to the top of the list. Check Remember networks this computer has joined. The Network window should now look similar to the following—with UDel Secure listed first. Click OK.

    11. On the page that appears, click Register this computer.

      • Do not click UDel Secure.

    13. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password, as well as a description of your device like "my laptop." Click Login.

  • Connecting on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

    1. From the iOS home screen, tap Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then tap UDel Secure.

    3. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password and click Join. login

    4. Tap Accept to verify the metal1.nss.udel.edu certificate. verify

      • Verify that the certificate is identified as GlobalSign Root CA under metal1.nss.udel.edu. The certificate may be labeled Not Verified. This is the result of a known problem in iOS. Although you should be wary of security certificate errors, in this case you may safely accept this certificate.

    5. Open Safari and navigate to any site.

    6. On the page that appears, click Register this computer.

      • Do not click UDel Secure. login


    7. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password, as well as a description of your device like "iPad." Click Login.

    9. You are now connected to the UDel Secure network.
  • Connecting on Android

    1. On your Android device, tap Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then tap UDel Secure.

      • Be sure the EAP Method is set to PEAP and the Phase 2 Authentication is set to MSCHAPV2

    4. Open your device's browser and navigate to any site.

    5. On the page that appears, click Register this computer.

      • Do not click UDel Secure. login


    6. Enter your UDelNet ID and Password, as well as a description of your device like "Android." Click Login.

    8. You are now connected to the UDel Secure network.
  • Connecting on Google Chromebook

    1. On your Chromebook, click the network icon in the lower-right corner of your screen.

    3. Select your network status from the menu that appears.

    4. Select Join other... in the lower-left corner.

    5. Select Advanced in the lower-left screen.

    6. Enter the configuration settings as demonstrated below. Use your UDelNet ID as your Identity and your UDelNet password as your Password. login


    7. Check the box Save identity and password if you want your log in credentials to be saved so you will automatically connect to UDelSecure.
    8. Click Connect.
    9. You are now connected to the UDel Secure network.
