University of Delaware Ice Arenas
Something for everyone
The University of Delaware Ice Arenas offer something for everyone who enjoys the sport of ice skating. The Ice Skating Science Development Center, which is directed by Ron Ludington, 1960 Olympic Bronze Medalist and recently inducted member of the elite World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, is home to some of the top figure skaters in the world. The University of Delaware is also home to the University Club Hockey team, the National ACHA Runner Up Champions for the 2000-01 season.
In addition to the excellence on the ice, the Ice Arenas offer a wide range of skating and hockey programs to fit everyone's skating ability. The Community Class Ice-Skating Institute (ISI) skating programs are designed for the intermediate or beginner skater. The program starts out focusing on proper methods of forward and backward skating as well as stopping and the proper way to fall. It progresses to completing the ISI skills test that builds for the more advanced skater. Classes for these programs are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays and are offered in the fall, winter and spring. Special summer sessions are available on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
For the hockey enthusiasts, the University of Delaware Ice Arenas offer the Junior Blue Hen Hockey Program. This program begins at the instructional level, which is designed to teach and strengthen basic skating and hockey skills. Instructional hockey prepares the player for the program's next level; in-house hockey. In-house hockey further develops players' skills, while emphasizing team and game experience. For the advanced player, the Junior Blue Hen travel teams provide high intensity practices and games to train serious hockey players who intend to play competitively. Special Spring Clinics are also offered.
The Ice Arenas also offer public sessions throughout the year, host National and World Ice Skating Send-Off shows and are available for rental groups. So, regardless of your skating ability or skating interest, the University of Delaware Ice Arenas have something for you.
