2006/2007 ROOM CHANGE INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE READ AND RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS

YOU WILL NOT BE REASSIGNED TO ANY TYPE OF HOUSING THAT YOU DO NOT LIST ON YOUR ROOM CHANGE FORM.

General Information:

•  Each type of room change and instructions for completing the room change form are defined below. Please read all information. If you have any questions regarding your room change request, contact a member of the Room Assignment staff at Housing Assignment Services, 5 Courtney Street or call (302)831-DORM (831-3676).

•  Requests received between May 1st and May 31th will be considered individually according to the number of Fall & Spring semesters on campus and specific circumstance or need, rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests received after May 31th will have less priority and will be considered if time and circumstances permit. (Number of semesters students have resided on campus will be a determining factor if all factors are equal.)

•  Please also check the Mutual Room Change Notebook at Housing Assignment Services. You may be able to arrange a mutual room change. (See Mutual Room Changes on the reverse side).

•  You may write additional comments on the back of the request form. Please attach any pertinent documentation to the Room Change form. Medical documentation should be submitted per the policy at http://www.udel.edu/has/Needs.htm

•  If you are requesting to move to a Special Interest Community or an Upperclass Honors space, you must also submit a Supplemental Application if you have not already done so. Supplemental Applications are available on the Web at http://www.udel.edu/has/uhoforms. Make sure you check the appropriate box in the "Location" section of the attached room change request form.

•  Room changes are not guaranteed, as they are dependent upon cancellations received throughout the summer from other assigned Upperclass students.

•  Room changes are processed in July. If your request is processed, your new room assignment will be available on your SIS account around mid July. Access the University of Delaware Housing Web site: www.udel.edu/has/ . It is not possible for staff to contact students to notify them of a room change.

•  Students who plan to obtain a parking permit will receive notification of their 2006-2007 housing assignment before the parking permits are issued.

•  The binding date is June 1st. You will be charged for your room/space from opening day of occupancy through the end of the academic year unless Housing Assignment Services approves a Request for Release from your Student Housing Agreement. The Academic-Year Student Housing Agreement is available on the web at http://www.udel.edu/has/studhsgagrmt/index.html

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING ROOM CHANGE FORM

Check the information in the fields containing your name, gender, date-of-birth and where you are presently assigned for Fall 2006. Complete sections 1 through 4 and check one of the options (A-E) described below.

ROOM CHANGE PREFERENCES: Specify the Location, Hall Type, and Room Type. The more preferences you list, the more likely your chances of being reassigned. Please number your choices in sections 1, 2, & 4.

INDIVIDUAL ROOM CHANGES (Option A): If you are requesting to receive a different assignment but are not involved in any type of room change detailed below, i.e., you want to be moved to a single in another location, or a double without a specific roommate.

MUTUAL CHANGES (Option B): In this case, two assigned students are trading places with each other. Each student completes a room change form and requests the space of the other student. BOTH forms must be submitted in order for the change to be effective. Requests will not be processed if either of the students involved cancels his/her assignment, is dropped by the University, or becomes a Resident Assistant.

SELECT-A-ROOMMATE (Option C): In this case, an assigned friend wants you to live with him/her in his/her room or apartment where his/her assigned roommate is canceling, and you wish to be reassigned to this vacancy to live with your friend. The student canceling must complete a cancellation form; the student requesting to move must complete a room change form. An email must be submitted by your friend in the room/apartment where you want to move to verify the request. Emails should be sent to UD-housing@udel.edu. Forms should be submitted together , as select-a-roommate changes cannot be processed until/unless a written cancellation is received from the student leaving the room or apartment.

PAIRS/GROUPS (Option D): If you and a friend, or group of friends, are trying to move together into a completely different room or apartment, all students wishing to move must complete a Room Change Request form. You must list each other's names and 2006/07 room assignments on your form.

CHAIN MOVES (Option E): A "chain move" occurs when one student's request to move is dependent upon another particular student's request to move. Specifically, if someone (student #1) wishes to move to another room, and someone you know (student #2) wishes to take his/her space, and you (student #3) would like to move into the space left by student #2 if (s)he is able to be reassigned, this is considered a chain move. If you are involved in some type of "chain move," forms from all students requesting to move must be submitted. (Requests to assume specific single rooms, completely empty double rooms/apartments, or spaces formerly assigned to a new Resident Assistant are not automatically approved but will be considered if possible as long as the students are of the same gender.)

Housing Assignment Services staff is available to assist you.
