A Message to Prospective Graduate Students

The University of Delaware was founded in 1743 as a small private academy.
Today, as one of the oldest land-grant institutions in the nation, one of
19 sea-grant institutions, and one of only 13 space-grant institutions, the
University of Delaware is recognized as a major state-assisted, private
university offering degrees in more than 100 undergraduate programs and
graduate degrees in 70 majors. Academic support services include the
expansive Hugh M. Morris Library, numerous laboratories, and computing
sites throughout the campus.

The University enrolls approximately 15,000 undergraduates and more than
3,000 graduate students who represent nearly every state and 106 foreign
countries. The University of Delaware is strongly committed to enrolling
and retaining minority students. Faculty at the University have received
numerous national and international awards and honors which recognize their
innovative research and publications. They include renowned scientists,
authors, and teachers who are committed to the University's tradition of
excellence in teaching, research, and public service. Facilities include a
campus network and associated computational facilities that have recently
been judged to be the nation's finest.

several forms of financial assistance, including fellowships, scholarships,
