Graduate Catalog 1994-1995 College of Education Department of Educational Studies Master of Education Degree Program in School Counseling Harleen Vickers, Ph.D., Coordinator (Telephone: 302-831-1166) This program is designed for persons who desire to be elementary or secondary school counselors. The 48-credit-hour curriculum leads to a MASTER OF EDUCATION DEGREE in School Counseling. Students learn a counseling model that conceptualizes the dynamic interaction between individuals and their environments and translates theoretical knowledge into effective, comprehensive, developmental counseling programs. Required curriculum areas include human development, school counseling services, educational measurement and research, career development, and the theories and skills requisite to counseling and consulting with individuals, groups, and families. All courses with the exception of practicum and internship experiences are offered after 4:00 p.m. and students can attend on a part-time or full- time basis. Courses are arranged in sequence and part-time students should take at least two courses each semester. Students must complete all program requirements in order to be recommended for certification. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: a. Graduate Record Exam scores (verbal & quantitative). TOEFL scores are accepted for international students. b. Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher in all undergraduate courses. c. Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher in all graduate courses (if graduate courses have been taken). d. Three strong letters of recommendation. e. Appropriate statement of objectives. f. Personal interview. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: a.
