Graduate Catalog 1993-1994
Fees and Expenses
Sustaining Fee

Once a graduate student has registered for all required course
credits needed for the degree but has not completed these courses or
other degree requirements (e.g., submission of thesis or dissertation,
portfolio, research option paper, comprehensive examination, art show
or exhibit, or courses with incomplete grades), the student must
maintain their matriculation in the degree program during the fall and
spring semesters by registering for either master's sustaining (UNIV
899) or doctoral sustaining (UNIV 999). (Students in this phase of
their work who hold a contract with the University must meet the
appropriate registration requirements as mandated by the contract
appointment.) All students must be registered in the semester that the
degree is officially awarded, either with credits or with sustaining
status. Sustaining registration is not required for summer session
unless the degree is to be awarded at the conclusion of the summer
session. Sustaining registration is never required for winter session
as graduate degrees are not awarded at the conclusion of winter
session.
