SUSI U.S. National Security Policymaking Institute (NSP)

The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Secondary Educators (SUSI), by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, are post-graduate level 5-6 week academic programs for mid-career foreign scholars, faculty, practitioners, and secondary educators hosted by colleges and universities across the United States.  These post-graduate level academic programs are designed to provide participants: 1) A deeper understanding of the United States history, society, education, and culture; 2) New skills and academic information that could be incorporated in home country curricula; and 3) A pedagogical model for how foreign universities might approach the study of U.S. culture and society.

Focused on the continuities and changes that occur in national security policymaking between presidencies, this program, running from January 5, 2017 through February 17, 2017, will provide 18 participants a wide array of academic seminars, meetings, and activities to facilitate more informed exchanges between experts in the United States and other countries.  The goal is that these exchanges will resonate with the peoples we serve as a long lasting global epistemic community is grown.

To accomplish this, the intensive academic program will include lectures, readings, roundtable discussions, open forums, guided tours, and social activities with faculty, students, and local communities.  The program is designed to consider national security policymaking from both theoretical and applied approaches, as participants will engage diverse speakers who offer unique perspectives on U.S. national security policymaking

The University of Delaware has long been recognized as a leader in international education.
