Glen Barbaras

Glen BarbarasGlen Barbaras knows something about commitment.  After all, at the age of 94½, Glen is the longest, continuous, fulltime member of the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 33½ years and counting! Since the early days of the Academy of Lifelong Learning, Glen has been a stalwart supporter of one of the country’s most vibrant and high-performing lifelong learning institutes.

Jay Halio and Diane Isaacs

Jay Halio and Diane IsaacsDr. Jay L. Halio arrived at UD in 1968 to teach in the English Department. Jay recalled how “Delaware worked its magic” during his interviews. Forty-two years later, now Professor Emeritus in English, Jay lives in Newark with his wife, Dr. Diane Isaacs. Diane was an adjunct professor in the English Department and in the History Department doing student teacher supervision. Diane and Jay share their love of UD and travel.

Arthur and Jenny Chase

Arthur and Jenny ChaseIn the fall of 1958, Burt Chase volunteered to register new students on campus. “This is how I met Jenny Wishing Haas – I was intrigued by her name, and I tried to cross paths with her as much as I could.” From Jenny’s point of view, it seemed very casual. “He asked me if I was planning to go to the Freshman Dance, explaining that most freshmen attended, so I would tell him that I would go." And so began their lives as Double Dels.

Renee O'Leary

Renee O'Leary

Renee is a busy lady. She has taught for 16 years at Caravel Academy in an early childhood enrichment program she designed. She travels extensively to train science teachers on hands-on science instruction to students at an early age. She is active with her church, the Newark Rotary Club and the Chapel Street Players, and she attends every UD home football game as a longtime season ticket holder and die-hard Blue Hen fan.

Chip and Doris Bixler

Chip and Doris BixlerChip Bixler met Doris Hogentogler in the dining room at Kent Hall when they were students at UD in the late 1960’s — Doris was a Resident Assistant in Kent, and Chip was the dorm president of Brown Hall. They were friends at first… but then began dating and soon fell in love and have been married for 37 years. These Double Dels actually consider themselves Quadruple Dels, since they both received their Masters degrees from Delaware as well.
