Fall 2011

During this time of giving, I would like to thank you, our Delaware Diamonds, for your inspired leadership and generous support.

Your partnership and investment is helping our students and faculty engage in groundbreaking research and projects that help the University on its Path to Prominence™.

We are planning a special donor event for spring and would appreciate your input. Please click the "reasons to return to campus" button to the right to take a quick survey.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students at UD, we’d like to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season and happy 2012.

Gifts in Action

Last month, hundreds of UD scholarship and award recipients wrote thank you notes to their donors for what may be the most precious gift of all – their education. Here is what one recipient, Erica, told us:

My scholarship reveals the amazing people in this world that offer their aid to people they have never met. I believe in the “pay it forward” way of life and I plan to pay it forward any way I can. This scholarship has lifted a weight off of my shoulders and given both my mom and me some financial relief. I could not be more appreciative and humbled that I was chosen for this scholarship.

Old College

New "Diamonds" Added to Walkway

We recently added 211 new bricks—more than any other year in our history—to the Diamonds Walkway, located in front of Old College. The Walkway is home to 2,337 bricks inscribed with the names of our most generous benefactors: our “diamonds.” Donors receive a brick after five consecutive years of giving $1,000 or more.

Women's Basketball

Our Appreciation

President Harker and his wife, Emily, invite Benefactor-level ($2,500+) DDS members and their guests to a Fightin’ Blue Hens Women’s basketball game and courtside celebration on Thursday, January 12, 2012. The event will begin with a reception in the Bob Carpenter Center at 5:30 p.m., with the game following at 7:00 p.m. Email for more information or to RSVP.

The Delaware Diamonds Society (DDS) was founded in 1974.

In 2009-2010, DDS had 3,001 members donating $9.1 million to 386 areas of the University.

Last year’s DDS gifts represented a 5% increase in members and a 35% increase in dollars.

Nearly 3,500 graduate and more than 1,000 undergraduate students are involved in research across UD’s 7 colleges and 60+ research centers/institutes. Your DDS dollars make this possible.
