Text: An advanced practicum in the systematic development of
computer-based learning materials. Participants form teams to
design and develop advanced multimedia applications for
delivery on the World Wide Web. Each team selects a topic and
conducts research on what has been learned by other groups
developing applications in the content area. Informed by this
research, the team designs an educational application and
presents it for critique and discussion by the entire class.
Then the team selects an appropriate hardware platform and
suite of development software. Participants comment on
progress as the applications undergo development on the Web.
The contributions of each team member are logged into an
online portfolio that is used for grading purposes. At the
end of the term, each team presents its project formally in
class for a final review and critique by all class members.

Text: In addition to attending class, participants will be expected
to spend at least six hours per week working on team
projects. The research and design of an original multimedia
application will constitute one-third of the final grade;
active participation on the development team will constitute
another third; and the final project will count the remaining
third. All students must make effective use of the course
listserv and newsgroup to communicate with team members and
their professor. Students will keep track of their projects
electronically in Web pages that the instructor will visit
periodically to review and comment. Final projects will be
mounted on the Web.
