Assistant Professor (Continuing Track) in Educational Technology

 

The School of Education (SOE) at the University of Delaware invites applications for an outstanding teacher and leader in Educational Technology who is committed to teaching and fostering racially literate and culturally responsive learners. This 9-month continuing track faculty position is at the Assistant Professor level. The continuing track at the University of Delaware includes opportunities for teaching, service, and leadership responsibilities in the School, gaining promotion, taking sabbatical, and enjoying the security of a multi-year appointment. Qualified candidates should be interested in establishing a long-term career at the University of Delaware. The start date is September 1, 2024.

 

We are particularly interested in applicants who take an interdisciplinary approach to fostering educational equity and diversity. The ideal candidate should also be an outstanding teacher educator who demonstrates a commitment to teaching educational technology courses in ways that foster meaningful learning, racial literacy and equity, engaged civic participation, and democratic decision-making.

Required Qualifications. Candidates must have a doctorate in education, educational technology, learning sciences, teacher education, or a field related to digital education, instructional design, digital literacies, or learning analytics and experience teaching courses in some of these areas. The successful candidate will have practical experience applying technology in authentic learning settings along with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and students from a wide range of cultural, disciplinary, and academic backgrounds. Candidates must thereby exhibit an ability to foster and support diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.

 

Responsibilities. The position comprises teaching responsibilities as well as program development and coordination. Teaching responsibilities center on courses in learning technologies, multimedia literacy, instructional design, and technology integration. New course development can expand to any realm of the educational technology discipline including areas such as computer science education; instructional/learning design; open, online, or distance education; critical digital pedagogy; human computer interaction and design; the maker movement; artificial intelligence; virtual and augmented reality; or social media and learning. The candidate must provide evidence of successful teaching and demonstrate an understanding of multiple evidence-based strategies for using technology as an effective tool for improving teaching and learning. In service to the teacher education program, the new faculty member will provide leadership in designing and revising ways to prepare prospective teachers to use technology in support of school learning.

 

Preferred Qualifications. Educational technology is a large and complex field. In evaluating candidates, the search committee will consider evidence regarding one or more of the following:

 

Ed Tech at UD. The Ed Tech faculty have an active program of scholarly and practical activities, and the Ed Tech Master’s degree is recognized as a national program of excellence. For undergraduates there is an Ed Tech Minor and two breadth courses that are popular across the campus. The successful candidate will inherit, make use of, and build upon this tradition of excellence. About the SOE. The School of Education (SOE), housed within the College of Education and Human Development, has more than 60 full-time faculty members who serve nearly 600 undergraduate and 360 graduate students. The SOE offers an undergraduate major in elementary teacher education and minors in educational studies, educational technology, and race, culture and equity in education. The department also offers several robust graduate programs at both the master’s and doctoral level including a Ph.D. in education, a Ph.D. in educational statistics and research methods, an Ed.D. in educational leadership, an Ed.S. in school psychology and interdisciplinary, joint programs with other University of Delaware colleges, including a Ph.D. in education and social policy, an M.S. in evaluation science and an M.S. in environmental education. Supported by the National Science Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences and other foundations and federal agencies, SOE faculty contribute rigorous and methodologically diverse research that addresses critical issues in education. Their research programs contribute to many areas, including educational policy, educational leadership and administration, language and literacy, mathematics education, the science of learning, sociocultural and community-based approaches, special education and disability studies and teacher preparation, among others. SOE faculty are recognized for their contributions to national and international conversations about critical educational issues, lead organizations working to address those issues and provide a range of supports to the agencies at the front lines of improving educational opportunities and outcomes.

 

About CEHD. The University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), defined by its commitment to serve children, youth and families across educational, community and family settings, offers enriching academic programs, engages in timely, externally-funded research and supports schools, districts, and other community organizations through its centers for education, research and public service. CEHD comprises two academic units, the School of Education and the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, as well as 10 centers.
