Text: Welcome
to Human Anatomy & Physiology II on the WEB! I'm Dr. Jack
Holloway. That's me on the left with my friend, Yorick
(Yorick's the one with no hair). Actually, not only did
I not know Yorick, I've no idea who the fellow was.
Anyway, Hamlet is for a course in British
Literature. Let's get on with the continuation of your
study of human structure and function.
I've been teaching this material for about 25 years at various colleges, but never like this. This will be a new way of doing old things for all of us. You'll be on your own a good bit, with me to guide you. Your lessons and responsibilities will be spelled out in detail. "All" you must do is keep up with everything, submit assignments on time, familiarize yourself with the prescribed lab material, and be ready to do well on the tests. You won't be entirely alone, however. I and your classmates will be around via email and in our Discussion Forum. Also, you'll have access to all the usual services at the College, including the laboratories.
Now, let's attend to some details:
COURSE DESCRIPTION
BIOS 254W is a continuation of BIOS 204, Human Anatomy & Physiology I. The course covers the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory, reticuloendothelial, endocrine, respiratory, digestive, integumentary, excretory, and reproductive systems. A treatment of fluid & electrolyte balance is included. Emphasis will be on structure/function relationships, control mechanisms, and physiologic integration.
PREREQUISITE
BIOS 204, Human Anatomy & Physiology I, or equivalent

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of BIOS 254W the student will have demonstrated:
COURSE ORGANIZATION AND REQUIREMENTS
GRADING POLICY
Each graded item in the course is indicated in the SYLLABUS each time one comes up. Each item also is assigned a percentage of the total course grade. You may at any time inspect your grades from the Student Control Panel. A subjective component of your grade will be derived from your level of participation in our Discussion Forum
HOW TO APPROACH THE LABS
Handouts for each lab exercise were included in the Orientation Packet you received in the mail. Each is referred to at the appropriate spot in the syllabus. You may attack the lab work in a manner of your choosing. Here are a few suggestions:
HOW TO DO WELL IN BIOS 254W
Well, so much for introduction. I hope you're as excited about the course as I am.
GLAD TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD!

There's a section in Lab 11 entitled Home-grown Urinalysis. Follow the instructions to analyse your own urine and report by (private, if you wish) email to me your results. Also, visit the following URLs for photomicrographs of urine sediment. There'll be a lab-based question on this in your next test.
