CHAPTER EXAMS

Chapter Exams test your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and culture, as well as your listening comprehension and writing skills.

COMPOSITIONS

Compositions are written in stages that have been designed to present writing as a process:

a.) planning
Brainstorming; organizing content; reviewing vocabulary

b.) writing
Writing first draft in class using assigned preparation handout and approved reference materials

The first draft is corrected using symbols that suggest the nature of the correction required. Your grade is based on these categories:
Preparation                 5%
Organization               5%
Content                       20%
Grammar                    40%
Vocabulary                  20%
Mechanics                   10%

c.) reviewing
Peer-editing and writing the final version (optional, but highly recommended)

The final version is graded taking into consideration the changes you’ve made to organization, content and vocabulary, as well as the extent and accuracy of grammatical and other corrections.  If you submit a final version, WebCT will average the first draft % and the final version %.  If you choose not to submit a final version, your composition grade will be the % received on the first draft.

Group Participation 25%:This portion of the grade is based on the extent to which you contribute and whether or not you speak Spanish when working with a partner or when collaborating with others in a group.

Individual Participation 20%:This portion of the grade is based on how often you raise your hand per class and/or reply with the class and also the extent to which you are attentive.
