New evening classes offered for area adults Responding to a growing need in the Newark community, ELI is now providing evening English classes. The ten-week classes, which began last April, are offered on three levels beginning, intermediate or advanced -- two nights a week from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Most of the adult students, who may be immigrants, American citizens from Puerto Rico or temporary visitors, work during the day, said teacher Walt Babich, who called the students "extremely motivated and disciplined." Along with Babich, ELI teachers Chandra Flint and Ricka Grollitsch have focused the classes on helping students cope linguistically with everyday situations. "I am very satisfied with the class," said Vladimir Blagovcanin, a student from Bosnia now living in Wilmington. "It has helped me in many ways, especially with reading and writing."
