Thanks for this, Mary Ellen
Note: Mary Ellen's comments on Gardner's "commitment to both content and how to teach" and "the correct implication of MI" are an apt response to misrepresentations by some of Gardner's critics.

Howard Gardner & Project Zero

People were curious [in a meeting of the Newark section] about who Howard Gardner is and what he really stands for in the educational world. Being a student of his I want to put forth the following websites that demonstrate the commitment to both content and how to teach. Tina Blythe took us through the Teaching for Understanding Project in the summer. It is every bit as rich as Understanding by Design and Jay [McTighe] would tell you that he looked at a great deal of Tina's work when constructing the model. In 2000 Project Zero already had an electronic base of lesson sharing that is on an international level. That data base is found in the Atlas Project and those attending the summer institutes can access and contribute to the base of knowledge.

This is a large organization committed to research internationally and I know that Jim Hiebert concurs with what they are saying. I hope that this will help us all understand the correct implication of MI and not think that teachers who truly know their students allow them not to be responsible learners in all disciplines.
