P/F Writing Assignment for Day 9
Readings:- Thernstroms's America, pp. 95-121
The reading, like the films we will see, recount some battles in an
enormous struggle over civil rights. For this period of the civil
rights struggle (1950s), please
describe the following (listing them is OK):
- WHO was involved in this struggle? (Kinds of people and
organizations, not just particular individuals)
- WHAT were their goals? (What were they fighting for or against?
Be as specific as you can.)
- HOW were they involved? (What kinds of actions did they
take?)
- WHY, in your view, did the civil rights advocates triumph?
Note: I don't want every detail, but pick out the major players, their
aims, actions, and reasons for success or failure.
