P/F Writing Assignment for Day 13
Readings:- Steele, pp. 37-47 ("A negative vote on affirmative
action") {Mills book and ER}
- Kennedy, only pp. 48-55 ("Persuasion and distrust") {Mills book
and ER}
We have seen that the civil rights movement reflects a change in
psychology (among both blacks and whites), not just in rights.
Steele and Kennedy have very different views on the psychology
that
is behind, and results from, affirmative action. Both use their views to
either support (Kennedy) or oppose (Steele) racial preferences.
-
Just what
are their arguments? How do they differ?
- What do you see as the strong and weak points of each?
